SpongeBob Doesn’t Care About Your Salt Lake City Child’s Health

SpongeBob Doesn't Care About Your Salt Lake City Child's Health

National and local Salt Lake City food advertisers can sabotage your Kaysville child’s health. Food manufacturers, like most Salt Lake City corporations, are motivated by profit, not by what’s best for Kaysville kids.

Their tools are deceptive language, cartoon characters, celebrities, and false promises of popularity. Kaysville parents can help youth better handle the constant media barrage by teaching them:

The components of a healthy diet
The implied messages and false promises of Kaysville food ads
Nutritional balance and moderation
How to read and understand Salt Lake City food labels
How excessive TV watching and internet viewing can affect health

If you encounter a local Kaysville food ad that is deceptive, contact the Salt Lake City Better Business Bureau. To complain about national ads, send a letter to the Children’s Advertising Review Unit, Council of Better Business Bureaus, 845 Third Ave, New York, NY 10022.

Nothing will change until Salt Lake City families unite to fight deceptive advertising aimed at Kaysville children. For more information on children’s nutrition in Salt Lake City, call me today.

The Right Bedtime Snack Can Help Kaysville Kids Fall Asleep

January 25th, 2012 by thehealthydarkside

The Right Bedtime Snack Can Help Kaysville Kids Fall Asleep

Wasatch Front parents know that sleep is important for their child’s health. If your Kaysville child has a hard time falling asleep, you may want to try a bedtime snack. Well-chosen evening snacks can help ease the transition to sleep.

Eating too much before bedtime is never a good idea for anyone, but a small snack may be just the ticket to dreamland for little ones in Wasatch Front. Foods containing the amino acid tryptophan are a natural sleep aid, especially if they are coupled with carbohydrates, which help make tryptophan more available to the brain.

Bedtime foods you can purchase at your local Kaysville grocer include soy milk, dairy products, nuts, seeds, and legumes, such as lentils or chick peas. These foods coupled with a healthy carbohydrate make the perfect bedtime snack. Your Kaysville kiddos will be visiting the sandman before you know it.

Try a glass of soy milk with a few whole grain crackers or string cheese and apple slices. Low-fat cottage cheese with pineapple helps my munchkins fall asleep.

I am a local XProtein High Antioxidant Meal Replacement representative and a children’s health advocate. If you live in Salt Lake City, Wasatch Front, or South Eastern Idaho and would like to learn more about children’s health contact me today!

Salt Lake City Injuries: Get The Ice, Fast!

January 20th, 2012 by thehealthydarkside

Salt Lake City Injuries Get The Ice Fast!

If your Salt Lake City kids are active on the field, the court, or in your own backyard, chances are you have dealt with many bumps, bruises, and sprains. Prompt medical care can make all the difference when it comes to how quickly an injury heals.

Despite medical advancements, when it comes to a sprain, strain, break, or bruise, the best way to reduce pain and swelling is the same as when you were a kid: apply ice.

For the best DIY ice bag, fill a zip-top bag with ice cubes or crushed ice and a little water. The liquid will help the bag conform to the body and distribute the cold evenly. You can also use the frozen peas trick, which does essentially the same thing.

Don’t apply the bag to bare skin, however. This could cause frostbite or even a burn. Wrap the pack in a thin towel or article of clothing.

Don’t take the ice off too soon. Removing it after just a few minutes, when the skin is cold to the touch, won’t have a lasting effect. Leave ice on the injury until the area goes numb, but not more than 20 minutes. Repeat this once an hour for up to four hours.

Remember to get the ice on as soon as possible. Preventing and reducing inflammation speeds up the healing process. The sooner you get ice on it, the sooner your Salt Lake City child will be back in action.

Plastic Alert For Southern California Parents

January 18th, 2012 by thehealthydarkside

Plastic Alert For Southern California Parents Hello new Southern California parents. Today’s Healthy Southern California Children’s blog focuses on BPA. Bisphenol A (BPA), the dangerous compound used in plastics manufacturing can now be detected everywhere in our environment: in our food, clothing, homes, offices, soil, water: you name it.

‘Since at least 1936 it has been known that BPA mimics estrogens, binding to the same receptors throughout the human body as natural female hormones.’1

What does this mean for Southern California kids? Numerous scientific studies suggest an increased risk of cancer and neurological problems.

Southern California infants are the most susceptible to even minute amounts of BPAs. Unfortunately, most infant formula containers and plastic bottles contain BPAs and other toxins.

What can Southern California parents do to reduce the risk of these chemicals finding their way into their child’s formula or baby food?

1) Do not heat plastic containers in the microwave.
2) Do not wash plastic containers in hot water.
3) Consider using glass bottles and containers.

These are simple steps that any Southern California parent or day-care provider can take. Toss your plastic bottles today! For more information about children’s health issues, call me at 801-725-2396.

Healthy Skin for Kaysville Kids

January 17th, 2012 by thehealthydarkside

Healthy Skin for Kaysville Kids

Hi! Welcome to my Kaysville children’s health blog. Today’s topic is ‘Healthy Skin for Kaysville Children.’

The skin is the body’s largest organ, and it’s easy to take for granted all that our skin does for us. It is our first defense against germs, it regulates body temperature, it gives us the sense of touch, and so much more. This organ is always hard at work and parents in the Salt Lake City area need to be sure it’s working well for their children.

A common skin problem in our Utah climate is simple irritation. Irritated skin is more likely to crack, which can increase the risk for infection. If your child’s skin is irritated, look around at some of the products in your home that may be causing it. Soaps, detergents, dryer sheets, and other household cleaners all have chemicals and fragrances that can be irritating. Kaysville parents can try switching brands or reducing use of these products.

Basic skin care for children should include moisturizing after bathing, using fragrance-free products, and practicing good sun protection. If dry skin is an issue for your child, pick up a humidifier at any Southern California, South Eastern Idaho, or Wasatch Front drugstore and allow it to run in your child’s room while they sleep.

If simple skin irritation can’t be controlled, or if your child develops other skin issues, make sure to take them to your Kaysville pediatrician.

Honey – Natural Remedy For Kid’s Coughs In Kaysville

January 11th, 2012 by thehealthydarkside

Honey Natural Remedy For Kids Coughs In Kaysville

Does your Kaysville child wake himself up repeatedly each night because of a bad cough? Upper respiratory infections can make sleeping very difficult for kids.

It turns out that Mother Nature’s sweetest treat may also help Utah children enjoy more zzzz’s each night. Buckwheat honey has been found to be a more effective remedy for children’s coughs than dextromethorphan (DM), the ingredient in common over-the-counter cough medicine.

A study published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine concluded that honey gave children more relief from upper respiratory symptoms than DM or no treatment.1

Thanks to Utah bees we have a safe and effective cough remedy for children over one. Remember to never give infants honey because of the risk of infantile botulism.

My name is LaRue Johnson and I sell XProtein High Antioxidant Meal Replacement in the Salt Lake City area. I am also an advocate for children’s health and nutrition in Utah. Contact me today for more information about XProtein High Antioxidant Meal Replacement or XProtein and XPower Square.

Kaysville Teens At Risk For Eating Disorders

January 5th, 2012 by thehealthydarkside

Kaysville Teens At Risk For Eating Disorders

Hello! Welcome to the Kaysville children’s health blog. I am life style trainer LaRue Johnson. At this site, I publish information on nutrition and health issues that affect Kaysville children and families. My goal is to improve the state of children’s health in the Salt Lake City area.

Despite decades of increased awareness in Salt Lake City about the dangers of a distorted body image and extreme dieting, eating disorders are still a serious problem.

A recent American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) study revealed disturbing facts about eating disorders among children.1 According to the report, 0.5 percent of teenage girls in the country are estimated to have anorexia. The bulimia rate among adolescent girls is estimated at more than double that at 1 to 2 percent. Though anorexia and bulimia are usually thought of as a problem for adolescents, Kaysville parents should be aware that even young Salt Lake City children are at risk, as well as males, though the rates are lower.

Utah pediatricians can help Kaysville parents with children affected by an eating disorder. The AAP recommends a combination approach for the treatment of eating disorders in children. Treatment plans usually include nutritional guidance and psychiatric counseling along with the appropriate medical care.

Probiotics For The Prevention Of Eczema In Kaysville

January 3rd, 2012 by thehealthydarkside

Probiotics For The Prevention Of Eczema In Kaysville

If your Kaysville kiddos scratch and claw at their skin because they suffer from children’s eczema you might consider including more probiotics in their diet.

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that promote the growth of friendly microflora in the intestines. Some probiotic powerhouses you can find in your favorite Kaysville grocery store are yogurt, kefir, and kimchi.

Probiotics support digestive health in a number of ways. They have been shown to prevent diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, and help reduce the symptoms of eczema.

Safe and natural probiotics can be an effective weapon in your eczema arsenal. Kaysville dermatologists and Salt Lake City pediatricians also recommend washing your tot’s clothing with mild detergents, using humidifiers, and bathing them with mild soap and then letting their skin completely dry.

My name is LaRue Johnson and I am a proud XProtein High Antioxidant Meal Replacement representative. I also campaign for children’s health in Kaysville, Salt Lake City, and the surrounding areas. Learn To Connect With Your Kaysville Network

December 29th, 2011 by thehealthydarkside

Connect With Your Kaysville Network Attention Kaysville entrepreneurs; here are eight simple steps to help you grow your home based businesses.

John C. Maxwell is an internationally-recognized leadership mentor who has sold over 12 million books. In an article entitled “Connecting with People” (Prosper Home-Based Business Solutions, January 2011), Mr. Maxwell explains how to maximize your influence by improving your ability to connect.

Kaysville network marketers can use Mr. Maxwell’s guidance to motivate their sales teams and improve their relationships.

1) Don’t Take People for Granted
Your downline and Kaysville customers provide your passive income. Without them, you do not have a Kaysville home business. They are everything.

2) Possess a Difference-Maker Mindset
This rule speaks directly to each person’s level of confidence and sense of self-worth. If you don’t believe in your abilities, you will not inspire anyone to join your Kaysville network marketing sales team.

3) Initiate Movement Toward People
People make things happen. Focus on the abilities of your direct selling team, not just strategies or projects.

4) Search for Common Ground
Creative Kaysville MLM leaders can find a way to relate to every potential customer or sales team member.

5) Recognize and Respect Differences
Don’t pretend you are exactly alike or see eye-to-eye on every issue. Find a way to make your differences complement rather than clash.

6) Learn the Key to Others’ Lives
Learning about a person’s history can help you discover what motivates them.

7) Communicate from the Heart
Sincerity wins Kaysville customers and network marketing team members.

8) Share Common Experiences
Interacting with MLM team members is time well spent.
